Tanner broadens our firm’s practice into healthcare law, where she has earned a reputation as a skilled and accomplished attorney in the successful representation of healthcare providers, health systems, and private medical practices in professional liability claims. Her expertise covers early claims management and investigation, Board investigations, dispute resolution, risk and liability prevention, healthcare policy, and compliance.
Tanner serves as an adviser to healthcare clients in all aspects of practice, and she personally manages all matters from inception to completion, communicating effectively with clients, risk managers, claims specialists, attorneys, mediators, and judges. Over the course of her legal career, Tanner has built a track record in the courtroom and established deep trust and relationships among healthcare providers and participants in civil, administrative and alternative dispute resolution matters.
Tanner earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Virginia and a J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law. Prior to earning her law degree, she practiced as an R.N. in the cardiac intensive care unit at Duke University Medical Center.
Tanner is highly visible and active in the Central Virginia community, serving on the boards of the Richmond Public Library Foundation where she is slated to be Vice President, and the local chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. She has given time to Boaz & Ruth (empowering residents of Highland Park), the Richmond Heart Ball, Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, and others. She is a regular speaker in the fields of healthcare risk management, documentation, avoiding and managing medical malpractice lawsuits, and end-of-life decision making. She and her husband, Mason, enjoy traveling, entertaining and spending time with their son.
